I had brought home the new Mercyful Fate cassette and blasting The Oath on my bedroom stereo, volume knob to 10, when my mom opened my door holding a laundry basket and shouted “Who is that?”. I told her and her response was “OMG, I really love his voice!” That was 1984 and yes indeed my parents were very much paying attention to what their heavy metal kid was listening too… and so were his neighbors 😂😂

I’m way too young to have seen kiss in all their original glory in the 70s and 80s but I did have a chance to see them on their first official reunion tour with Peter Chris and Ace Frehley and make up in the late 90s and I got to tell you it blew my mind We were close enough to get spit on by Jean Simmons and I almost caught a drumstick at the end of the show. I play this one a lot. That outro section is magic under the fingers. He spent time working on it a lot, and it shows.

I highly agree. Mercyful Fate did influence a lot of bands including myself. Hank Shermann and Michael Denner were so underrated and wrote some killer riffs and solos.

Cannibal Corpse lyrics are so fucked but the music is so good, its a beautifully confusing combination
